First things first, this summer can be summed up in two aesthetics: “Mermaid Core” and “Coquette Core”. Let’s figure out which one you’re going to rock this summer. Who knows, if might just be both.

Shades of teal, coral, pearls and pastels. Texture, braids, and sequins. Mermaid Core isn’t just for those living by water – we can all live our mermaid dreams and be inspired by the sea! 

Coquette Core matches the mermaids when it comes to bows, pearls, and ruffles. What is it exactly? It's a mix of English-style and girl core. Think soft, feminine styles. Basically, it’s a celebration of all things romantic, girly, and pink with inspiration taken from vintage styles. When in doubt with this one, grab a pink bow and pop it in your hair for effortlessly feminine style.

So, can you be a coquette girly and a mermaid girly? Absolutely! Let’s break down these aesthetics even more and take a look at exactly how you can incorporate both into your summer.

Braids 

Braids are making a return, but don’t stress. Loose, messy braids are where it’s at, especially for our mermaid girlies. For our coquette girlies, let’s talk. Something we’ve been seeing a lot of on socials are accessories. I think we can guess which look this core serves best. Waves give that perfect in-between texture we all comb through our curls to get. It gives laissez-faire while still looking very put together and polished.

The slick back look still reigns supreme. Yes, still. However, updos in general are dominating the trends. Whether clean and slicked back or loose and romantic, both can suit your core inspo.

Updos are the perfect chance to embrace fun, colorful makeup looks and/or a glowy, skincare-based look too. Add in a fun accessory to go for that coquette core or go for a braided back to have some mermaid-inspired fun with your clean girl look. And yes, pigtails are back in town. 

Half up, Half Down 

This simple look suits both cores. Cute, practical, and feminine, this look is a winner all around. Use a bow and to give it that coquette charm or embrace your natural hair texture and be ready to take your look beach-side.
